April 28 - Brevard County’s nonprofit organizations will be showcased and Brevard’s best salsa will be chosen at the 13th annual Fiesta Brevard hosted by the Non-Profit Task Force Committee of the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce. The event will be at Cocoa Riverfront Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Over 30 organizations will feature information about their local community services, while guests and a panel of judges will taste and award Brevard’s Best Salsa 2017. April 29 – Walk with Mike & Mindy at March of Dimes Brevard County “March for Babies” Join us for festivities and a 5K walk on the beach, raising funds and awareness for March of Dimes and saving babies at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach. April 29 - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  The Women’s Center is pleased to announce it is partnering with the City of Cocoa and Cocoa Police Department to host the 2017 SAAM event.  The Awareness Walk, educational presentations and free lunch from 11am to 3pm at The River Front Park in Cocoa Village.  Participants should arrive by 11 a.m.  The walk, approximately two miles, through and around Cocoa Village starts at 11:15 a.m.  Presentations by Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Cocoa Police Department and a self-defense instructor. Domestic violence affects one in every four women, and over 100 children are abused every hour.  The Women’s Center in Brevard serves over 10,000 women and children annually.   

April 29 - The Central Florida will host our annual National Healthy Kids Day from 9-12 noon. Location:  27 Y Family Centers in Orange, Osceola, Marion, Seminole, Lake and Brevard counties, including 11 Outreach Ys serving Pine Hills, Tangelo Park, Kissimmee and other fragile communities, will be hosting the event.

April 29 – 4-9pm Fundraiser for Eric Berkowitz of Melbourne.  Eric is fighting for his life. In 2013, he suffered a massive heart attack that damaged his heart. His health deteriorated and now doctors say a heart transplant is essential to his survival. Volunteers will host a live auction and raffle at Wesley Church, Fellowship Hall Melbourne. There will be a $10.00 entry fee that will give participants 10 tickets to use in the raffle.  For fundraising support and guidance, Berkowitz and his family turned to the National Foundation for Transplants for assistance with some of these financial burdens. April 29 - Challenger 7 Elementary’s School Advisory Council will hold its second golf classic event, to help raise funds for the school, at Turtle Creek Golf Club in Rockledge. The registration cost is $55 per person and includes greens fee, cart, lunch, range balls and on-course contests. May 5 - The Women’s Center will be hosting the “Kentucky Derby Garden Party” Fashion Show 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hilton Rialto Melbourne.  The luncheon will feature guest speaker, Dr. Jenny Gessler, PhD, Director of the Women’s Center, who will be accompanied by a client during the presentation. The “Kentucky Derby Garden Party” will be complete with Mint Juleps, big hats and derby cuisine.  Other exclusive vendors will have fashion items available to purchase, and there will also be a live and silent auction and 50/50 raffle. May 5 - The Cape Canaveral Culture and Leisure Services department will be hosting its Friday Fest street party in conjunction with the 18th Annual Student Art Show at Taylor and Poinsetta Avenue in Cape Canaveral from 6-10 pm. May 5 - Brevard County Parks and Recreation, Central Area, will hold its annual Community Campout at F. Burton Smith Park  in Cocoa. We say, "You bring your tent and we do the rest!" There will be a hot dog cookout, hayrides, crafts and games. There will also be a campfire and s’mores, and the Astronomy Club will be on hand with their awesome scopes!
