Half Naked Man Accused Of 'Humping Trees,' Assaulting Officers Arrested

A Connecticut man is accused of assaulting an officer after police found him half naked and "humping trees" while trespassing in a backyard last week.

John Edward Fignar, 36, of Newington was charged with assault on a public safety officer, second degree criminal trespassing, second degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, according to a public press arrest log shared by the Nagatuck Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of an unknown male in a backyard on High Street who was said to be half naked, humping trees, screaming and eating branches at 2:59 p.m. on November 12, according to the arrest log. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, who attempted to run into a nearby house, causing the residents to flee the home in fear.

The man then came out of the house and was placed into custody. While detained, the man, identified as Fignar, spit at and assaulted Nagatuck Police officers, according to the arrest log.

Fignar was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for evaluation before being taken to jail. He is currently being held on a $25,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday (November 18).
