A new Pew survey has found just how much pets mean to Americans.
- 62% of Americans own a pet
- 35% own more than one
- 51% say those pets mean as much to the family as a human member
- Of the people that feel that way about their pets, 57% are women
- 64% of those who feel their pets are as important as human family members come from households described as “lower income”
- 49% of pet owners are “dogs only,” and 23% are “cats only”
