Oct. 15: “Taste of the Diaspora: Food. Flavor. Soul” celebrates the African influence on food and culture. Oct. 15 and 16: The volunteers at Coastal Poodle Rescue are busy gathering treasures for the group’s rummage sale, happening from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 542 Hammock Road, Melbourne Village. Be there to grab treasures and help the poodles and poodle mixes.

Oct. 16 to 31: Weekends from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., with Halloween décor, “spooktacular” music and photo ops. Costumes are encouraged to dress in style while trick or treating at a dozen stations. Oct. 16 - Corvettes from the earliest models to the latest mid-engine model will be available for ogling at one of the largest “migrations” of Vettes in Florida. The family-friendly event features raffles and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit Space Coast Honor Flight and the Children’s Hunger Project. Oct. 16-17: Historic Cocoa Village will host its Fall Art & Craft Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday. More than 200 artists and crafters will show their creations at this kid- and pet-friendly event. Check out the street food and entertainment, too. Oct. 16-17: The Avenue Viera goes festive with the 56th annual Space Coast Art Festival. The juried fine arts festival features artists from throughout the United States and beyond. Additionally, a two-day student art show will showcase art from public, private and home-schooled students in Brevard. Oct. 16 - The Fearless Improv Brigade presents “It’s Almost Halloween, Be Afraid” at Surfside Playhouse at Surfside Playhouse, 301 Ramp Road, Cocoa Beach. Oct. 16 - Turkey Creek Sanctuary in Palm Bay falls for the arts with its Fall Arts & Crafts Show from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m inside the nicely air-conditioned Tony Rosa Community Center, 1502 Port Malabar Blvd. More than 60 vendors with handcrafted items will everything from the amazing to the zany. October 17: More than 20 police K-9 teams from around Florida and across the country will meet at Space Coast Stadium for a competition designed to test their professional skills, and how well they navigate real the world challenges of police K-9 duties. The event is presented by the Cocoa Police Department in partnership with the Brevard Kennel Club, the event’s main sponsor. The competition begins at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 3 p.m. The half-time demonstration will feature Cocoa Police Department’s K9 Bear with Officer Dan Rhoades, local fan favorite and winner of America’s Top Dog Season 1 Episode 2, the Fast and Furriest. All proceeds benefit the Space Coast Police K-9 Foundation, a non-profit supporting police K-9 programs and public safety outreach throughout the Space Coast.

Oct. 22- 24 and Oct. 29-31: Green Gables and bUneke.org are revisiting the House on Foggy Bluff Ghost Walk for the second year. This year's walk features a high-tech experience, a walk through a large, spooky cemetery, a haunted mausoleum and a terrifying glimpse into the gingerbread house, as well as an enchanted and haunted forest, and an eerie maze that ends up with a tour of the amazing House on Foggy Bluff, aka Green Gables, 1501 S. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne. This event is a fundraiser to help the still endangered 125-year-old Victorian house that played a vital role in the foundation of Melbourne. October 23: 10a.m. – 2p.m. Parrish Medical Center is partnering with the Titusville Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration to serve as a collection point for the National Prescription Drug Take Back event. During this national take back event community members are able to surrender expired, unwanted or unused prescription controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. October 29 - Rock & Roll Revue, an ensemble of the Melbourne Municipal Band will present a Halloween-themed Monster Mash sock hop at 7 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 Hibiscus Blvd. Halloween dress is welcome, and prizes will be awarded for best costumes. Nov. 11- 4th annual Veterans Day 5k called Home Stretch takes place in EGAD. Benefits National Veteran Homeless Support for four years now – a local organization that helps homeless veterans into transitional housing and vet programs to get and keep them off the street. More info about the group is available at www.NVHS.org.
