Arrested Minneapolis officer has home in Central Florida

Protesters are outside the Central Florida home of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who was caught on videotape while kneeling on the neck of George Floyd before his death.

Chauvin has been taken into custody on third-degree murder and manslaughter charges. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina says he understands people are angry and he's urging everyone to stay calm--

"We just ask that people protest peacefully," Sheriff Mina said, "and from everything that I've seen and heard, I think that's exactly what we're going to get here in Orange County. So proud of the residents of Orange County for how they've been peacefully protesting."

Sheriff Mina says they've been in contact with Chauvin's family and no one is at the home on Winter Garden Vineland Road in Windermere- nor do they plan to be. Mina says they're not providing security for the home-

"But because it is a gathering of people in a residential neighborhood and because of the circumstances, we're going to monitor the situation out there," Mina said.
