St Pete Approves Sale of Bayfront Hospital to Orlando Health

ST. PETERSBURG -- City council gave the green light for Orlando Health to acquire Bayfront hospital by approving a 50-year lease deal with Orlando Health, the nonprofit that operated Orlando Regional Medical Center and several other medical facilities.

The vote was 6-1 with Council member Amy Foster voting no.

Foster and others who spoke against the deal worried that it isn't as specific about care requirements for those who lack insurance.

"I find myself disappointed that the charity care policy is even more vague than it used to be," Foster said.

Others, including council members who voted to approve the lease, say they'll be watching to make sure Orlando Health follows through on charity care, including council member Robert Blackmon, who also said that everything he heard about Orlando Health was positive.
