NOAA To Update Hurricane Outlook Today

The nation's top hurricane experts are weighing in and are now preparing for an "extremely active" season.

Already blowing through nine named storms, Colorado State University and Accuweather upping their pre-season projections... to an "extremely active" hurricane season with possibly 24 total named storms, 12 hurricanes and five Category 3s or greater.

NOAA forecasters are expected to follow a similar path to today.

Accuweather Lead Hurricane Forecaster Dan Kottlowksi adds as we get into August, African dust, which hinders tropical development, becomes almost insignificant.

Kottlowksi blames a combination of low pressure in the Atlantic basin, low wind shear and warm water.

He says we'll probably head from a neutral pattern to a weak La Nina.

NOAA forecasters will release their updated seasonal outlook today.
