Today is the 35th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion

Today is the 35th anniversary of the space shuttle Challenger explosion, one of the deadliest tragedies in America's space program. All seven souls on board: astronauts Dick Scobee, Michael Smith, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, Judith Resnick and teacher Christa McAuliffe were killed.

Millions of school kids all across the country, watched the disaster live, tuning in to see McAuliffe make it to space as part of the Teacher in Space Project announced by then-President Reagan back in 1984. The shuttle exploded just 73 seconds after lift off.

A day the Space Coast will never forget.
