Authorities on the Treasure Coast are concerned that a man who sexually assaulted an elderly woman inside her home this week will return.
"Crimes like this tend to be repetitive. It's not normal for somebody to get to this kind of level of offense and just stop."
Martin County Sheriff William Snyder says that due to the age of the victim, it's not a common type of crime.
"Unfortunately the incident took place over about an hour."
Neighbors say the victim is in her 80's. A "masked assailant" woke her up early Wednesday morning and attacked her.
The woman could not identify much about him.
She's bruised but otherwise okay and staying with relatives.
Snyder tells CBS 12 News that detectives are looking for residents and businesses with surveillance cameras to try and find the suspect.
He's asking them to review their security video for anything unusual between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. They should contact the sheriff's office at 772-220-7060.
