Masks Will Be Optional In Palm Beach County Classrooms Next School Year

Masks will be optional in Palm Beach County's public schools for the 2021/22 school year.

Superintendent Donald Fennoy has sent a letter to parents, students and staff, saying that masks will remain mandatory in school buildings and buses for the remainder of this school year, which ends on June 18th.

They'll also have to be worn during the upcoming graduation ceremonies next month.

Fennoy's letter notes that if health conditions deteriorate, he reserves the authority to change course and also pointed out that COVID safety measures will remain in place, including enhanced cleaning and sanitization and social distancing when possible.

The announcement came on back of the CDC relaxing its guidance for people who are fully vaccinated, advising that those people may ditch their facemasks indoors and outdoors under most circumstances.
