Flags are flying at half-staff in memory of a former state lawmaker and local mayor.

Joel Daves served as Mayor of West Palm Beach from 1999 to 2003, after spending several years as a city commissioner.

Prior to that the U.S. Marine Corps veteran was a state representative in Tallahassee in the 1960's.

He passed away last Tuesday at the age of 93, at his condo on Clematis Street.

The governor ordered flags at City Hall, the Palm Beach County Courthouse and the state Capitol to be at half-staff until sunset.
