LISTEN: Did Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber Copy This Song? They're Being Sued

Another day, another copyright infringement case against a popular musician!

According to People, multiple companies have filed a lawsuit against both Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber, claiming that the "core portion" of the hit song "10,000 Hours" was stolen from a song they have the rights to. The song in question is called "The First Time Baby Is A Holiday" and it was recorded by an artist named Asia Luckey. The song was originally written in 1973, but wasn't released until 2014 - five years before Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber released "10,000 Hours".

The companies are asking for writing credit on the track, monetary damages, statutory damages, an injunction preventing any further distribution of the song, and attorney fees.

So do these songs sound the same?

You be the judge.

This is "The First Time Baby Is A Holiday" by Asia Luckey.

And here's Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber's "10,000 Hours".

What do you think?

I can definitely hear some similarities, but this has come up before - there are only so many notes and so many melodies, it's bound to happen... I think more artists are going to start doing what Ed Sheeran says he's going to do after recently facing a similar lawsuit... He told the BBC he will be filming all of his writing sessions to prove his creative process is authentic.

We'll see how this case plays out in court...
