Florida's Lieutenant Governor was in West Palm Beach on Monday to tout the recent passage of the "Every Child a Swimmer" legislation.

The new law encourages parents of children entering elementary school to register their kids for swimming lessons.

"According to the Florida Department of Health, in the first three months of 2021 alone, 19 children have lost their lives due to drowning and that is a statistic that no one here is proud of. And that is something that we seek to change each and every day."

Jeanette Nunez was at Keiser University, where plans were announced to launch a fundraising campaign to build an $8 million Aquatic Center, which will include an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

In addition to bringing world-class events to the area, the facility would also work to help children learn how to swim.

Several state lawmakers from both sides of the aisle were also on hand for the announcement.
