Carbon Monoxide Forces Evacuation of Tampa Apartment

12 apartments at the Oaks at Riverview in the 75-hundred block of North Florida Ave. were evacuated this morning after Fire Rescue crews found high levels of carbon monoxide in the building.

Crews noticed a heavy odor of exhaust when they arrived to treat a man in his 50's who was unconscious and unresponsive. A search of the building turned up two generators, one on the first floor, and the other on the third.

Two people were taken to the hospital. One remains in critical condition. The second is said to be stable. Three other tenants were assessed for symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, but refused further treatment. The building was ventilated floor by floor, and unit by unit. It has since been cleared of carbon monoxide, and released back to property management.
