Not all art is edible. A very costly lesson one man from New York figured out. A piece of artwork, which included a banana duct-taped to a wall and labeled “art”, just sold for $120,000. The banana art, titled “Comedian,” was the work of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. It was on display in Miami Beach for Art Basel.
Well, in front of a convention center full of art lovers, New York-based performance artist David Datuna ate the banana. He called it “Hungry Artist.” The gallery reported the incident to security, but Datuna slipped away. However, the gallery says that the piece wasn't ruined by eating the banana, saying that, “The banana is the idea.” The gallery owner and an assistant taped a new banana to the wall.
