Students from Barbara Wilcox's transitional kindergarten class from Tropical Elementary on Merritt Island traveled to Tallahassee last week to be recognized by state lawmakers for the efforts to promote kindness.
In late 2018 the class launched a petition for U.S. Congress to adopt a logo the students helped design as a "national symbol of kindness" which is a heart encircled by a thin ring of connected arrows.
The symbol has been promoted by across Brevard County and state legislators as far away as New York and New Jersey, and even gained international support from groups in Canada and Germany.
Despite well over 5,000 signatures, the petition posted to change.org has yet to reach the desks of federal lawmakers.
